In Szczynow, with the participation of residents, councilors and authorities of the ports of Strzecin and Szczynow, as well as representatives of the investor of the deep-sea container terminal, an unusual meeting of the city council dedicated to this project took place on July 9 this year.
The port authorities presented a chronology of the activities already carried out, the expected technical parameters of the terminal and the expected benefits for the residents of Shchynov, the city and the state treasury.
Representatives of the investor consortium, including DEME Concessions, QTerminals, the Meridiam Investment Fund and the Industrial Development Agency, presented the scope of their work and arguments in favor of locating the project in Szczynow.
It is expected that the deep-sea container terminal in Szczynov will be the most modern and environmentally friendly project in the Baltic Sea. It will be built in accordance with the concept of a green terminal, ensuring the use of environmentally friendly technologies and materials. The terminal will be equipped with automated and modern equipment powered by electricity, which will minimize the environmental impact in the form of CO2 emissions. The investor plans to use smart lighting with motion sensors and smart energy management. Automation of terminal operations aims to optimize transportation planning to prevent queues and accumulation of cargo flows inside and outside the terminal.
It is also planned to train and develop local employees and create new specialized jobs in the region. Direct employment is expected to be 250 skilled employees in the first phase of the terminal’s operation, which could rise to 500 in later phases.
