At the “New Silk Way” forum in Astana, the prospects for the development of the international port of Aktau were presented. The port functions as a modern multifunctional terminal with extensive warehouse areas, including a grain terminal, dry cargo berths, and oil-loading docks.During the first nine months of 2023, the total cargo handling in the port reached 3.386 million tons, marking a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. Forum participants emphasized the crucial role of the Aktau port in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, bringing together companies from various countries, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, Poland, Uzbekistan, Romania, and China.
Ongoing developments at the port involve the creation of a container hub on its premises, slated to become a key element in servicing the container park for countries in the Caspian region and Central Asia. The project encompasses a full range of services, including container handling, cargo transshipment, warehouse services, railway sidings, repair workshops, and container inspection. Looking ahead, the port of Aktau aims to expand its throughput capacity, increasing its infrastructure capabilities for oil transshipment to 20 million tons per year.
