Port of Amsterdam strengthens renewable hydrogen position through key agreements

Port of Amsterdam, along with its partners, unveiled three crucial agreements during the H2 Connecting Event in Duisburg. Presided over by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, the event aims to strengthen collaboration between the Netherlands and Germany in the realm of renewable hydrogen and lay the foundation for intra-European corridors. The agreements, aligned with these objectives, aim to maximize the existing partnerships of the Port of Amsterdam with leading prospective producers.

The first agreement expands the connection established earlier this year between the Port of Amsterdam and the Basque Country. Intending to explore the development of an intra-European corridor for renewable hydrogen, this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in collaboration with duisport, Port of Bilbao, Petronor, EVE, Zenith Energy Terminals, and Evos Amsterdam, opens up the possibility of supplying Basque hydrogen to major industrial consumers in the Rhine-Ruhr region, with the Port of Amsterdam serving as a key transit hub.

The second agreement focuses on the critical link between the ports of Amsterdam and Duisburg, a vital component of the Spanish-Dutch-German renewable hydrogen corridor. As part of their existing strategic cooperation, the Port of Amsterdam and duisport signed a Joint Study Agreement to assess technical and financial requirements, transport modalities, and infrastructure for the realization of a sustainable supply chain between the two ports.

The third agreement, involving EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Zenith Energy Terminals, and GasLog, aims to establish an eco-friendly connection with liquid hydrogen from the Port of Amsterdam to EnBW’s facilities in Germany.
