One of the most important events in the European port industry, the 21st Conference of the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO), was held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki. Against the backdrop of the aggravation of the geopolitical situation, the key topic of the meeting was the future of ports in an unstable environment. The Port of Gdansk actively participated in the discussions, emphasizing the strategic importance of seaports in ensuring the economic, energy and military stability of Europe.

Vice President for Finance and Security of the Port of Gdansk Alan Aleksandrowicz noted the need for a comprehensive approach to port development: infrastructure modernization, expansion of berths, automation, implementation of multimodal solutions and investments in dual-use facilities are priorities against the backdrop of growing threats. The port is already working on the implementation of environmentally friendly solutions, including a shore-based power supply system and low-emission bunkering infrastructure.

Gdansk is becoming not only a logistics hub, but also an EU reference point in matters of sustainability. This was confirmed by the announcement that the next, 22nd ESPO conference will be held in Gdansk in 2026. For Poland, this is recognition of the port’s experience and importance in shaping the future of European port policy.
