Port of Hamburg Marketing has opened an official representative office in Dubai to strengthen its position in the Persian Gulf region.

Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) has officially integrated its Dubai representative office into its international network. Since January 2026, the “Port of Hamburg Representative Office Dubai” has strengthened Hamburg’s presence in one of the key hubs of global trade. The Gulf region is seen as a strategic hub between Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as a promising partner amid the transformation of supply chains and the development of alternative energy. The growth in business activity is already reflected in the figures: in the first nine months of 2025, container throughput between the Port of Hamburg and the UAE/Red Sea/Gulf countries increased by 28.8 percent to approximately 130,000 TEU compared to the same period last year.

With the United Arab Emirates as the region’s key partner for direct container traffic, the Port of Hamburg will account for almost 80 percent of the market share among German seaports by the end of calendar year 2024. New and expanded liner services provide additional impetus. At the same time, Gulf countries are increasing investments in solar and wind energy, as well as in developing green hydrogen value chains, creating long-term potential for Hamburg as a project cargo handling center and a future import hub for green energy.

The official representative office, known as the “Hamburg Representative Office UAE and Gulf Region,” serves as a central platform for Hamburg companies and HHM members. The office is supported by the Chancellery of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Employment, and Innovation, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Hamburg Tourism, Hamburg Messe und Congress, and HHM. Kirsten Staab, who has over 25 years of experience in the region, leads the office. According to Hendrik Mein, head of HHM, having an experienced representative with a broad regional network will enable the effective development of partnerships in the Gulf countries and strengthen the resilience of international supply chains.
