Rail Baltica has received record funding to accelerate construction of the highway.

The Rail Baltica joint venture RB Rail AS has signed two new agreements under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, which will allocate EUR 1.394 billion for the implementation of the project. Of this amount, EUR 1.163 billion is provided by the CEF, and EUR 231 million is co-financing from the Baltic States. This is the largest financing in the current period, aimed at accelerating the construction of key sections of the Rail Baltica mainline.

In Estonia, the funds are aimed at the construction of 58 kilometres of the mainline, including the sections from Soodevahe to Kangr and from Hagudi to Alu. The financing amounted to EUR 440 million, of which EUR 352 million was provided by the CEF. In Latvia, the main focus is on the construction of the route from Misa to the border with Lithuania and the creation of infrastructure in Skulte, which will ensure the development of the route towards Estonia. EUR 397 million has been allocated for these works. Lithuania received EUR 529 million for work on 36.7 kilometers of the Ramygala-Berčiūnai section and 69 kilometers of rail laying on the Kaunas-Latvian border route.

Additional funding was allocated for the development of electrification systems and project management. This strengthens cooperation between the Baltic States, promoting the development of Rail Baltica as a key infrastructure for the region.
