Rail Cargo Group expands presence in Serbia: joint venture with Transfera d.o.o.

Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has extended its presence in Serbia with the establishment of a joint venture focusing on freight forwarding services. Teaming up with Transfera d.o.o., Serbia’s second-largest forwarding company, RCG now holds 51% of the shares. This move signals RCG’s commitment to offering comprehensive logistics solutions in Serbia, complementing its existing transit transport services.

The joint venture, headquartered in Belgrade, will initially concentrate on developing intermodal logistics solutions, with plans to expand into conventional transport in the future. Notably, RCG and Transfera inaugurated the first freight train from the new intermodal terminal in Kruševac last November, marking a significant milestone in facilitating rail transport from Kruševac to Western Europe.

Serbia’s evolving market presents numerous opportunities for rail freight, especially amidst ongoing efforts to modernize railway infrastructure and construct intermodal terminals. RCG’s expansion aligns with the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions, positioning the company to strengthen connections between Serbia, Turkey, Greece, and major European ports such as Hamburg and Rotterdam. With its 13th carrier company established in Belgrade in January 2023, RCG is poised to provide international transport services within Serbia using its locomotives and personnel, further solidifying its role in the region’s transportation landscape.
