Rhenus Group has acquired the first railway terminal in Kazakhstan along the Trans-Caspian route.

Rhenus Group announced the acquisition of its first rail terminal in the Almaty region, strengthening its presence in Kazakhstan’s domestic logistics sector and on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The investment is part of the company’s long-term strategy to develop an integrated and reliable logistics infrastructure in Central Asia and expand its global service portfolio. The terminal is located at the Baiserke station near Almaty and operates under the name QAZContargo Almaty Ltd., providing direct access to national and international rail routes.

The new facility increases regional container handling capacity and is focused on the growing volumes of imports, exports, and transit between China, Europe, and Central Asian countries. The terminal specializes in container depot services and block train dispatches, offering a customs warehouse for imported cargo, an open customs yard for container handling, and rail transhipment solutions. The infrastructure enables the transhipment of bulk cargo from railcars to containers, expanding the possibilities of multimodal transportation along the Trans-Caspian corridor. The facility is operated by Contargo Group, a long-standing Rhenus partner with extensive experience in international container logistics.

Rhenus has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1996, providing freight forwarding and logistics services through offices in Almaty, Astana, and Karaganda. The integration of the rail terminal complements the company’s existing services and strengthens the multimodal connectivity of supply chains, cementing Kazakhstan’s role as a key logistics hub for Eurasian trade. The terminal in the Almaty region marks Rhenus’s second container terminal in Central Asia, following the launch of a joint rail project with Uzbekistan Railways in Andijan in 2025.
