Chairman of the Board of JSC Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov reported at a government meeting on the implementation of projects to develop the country’s transport and logistics potential and transform JSC KTZ into a full-fledged transnational multimodal company. According to him, the delivery of goods from Shanghai to Rotterdam via Kazakhstan takes no more than 16 days compared to 60 days by sea through the Suez Canal, and about 85% of all cargo traffic between China and the EU passes along this route.
To increase transit, an international terminal network is being created: capacities in Chengdu will be added to the existing terminals in Lianyungang and Xi’an, and projects are also being implemented in Azerbaijan (Alyat port) and Hungary (Budapest) with the prospect of covering the ports of Georgia, Romania and Bulgaria.
Additionally, construction of a third border crossing with China is underway – the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line, sea transportation is being expanded through the purchase of container ships and dredging of Caspian ports, and the creation of a national cargo air carrier is being considered to develop air delivery services, noted Nurlan Zhakupov.
