SBB Cargo International opened its subsidiary SBB Cargo France, based in Alsace, and received the safety certificate from the European Railway Agency on 21 November. This will enable the company to launch freight services across France with the next schedule change, expanding the transport capacity on the Rhine-Alpine Corridor.
The establishment of the company’s fifth subsidiary – after the units in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands – has been meticulously prepared since 2022 under the leadership of Managing Director Omar Zerkli and Operations Manager Amir Unzerfi. The new operations centre in Jutz/Thionville will ensure the operation of services on the left bank of the Rhine, taking the pressure off the congested sections north of Basel.
The expansion towards France strengthens SBB Cargo International’s strategic role in international freight transport and optimises logistics on the key route connecting Southern Europe and the North Sea.
