At the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, participants signed 25 cooperation documents, focusing on economic issues. The event was the admission of Belarus to the SCO, which became the tenth member of the organization along with India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Of the signed documents, six related to economic cooperation. These included the Astana Declaration, the draft SCO Development Strategy until 2035, the energy cooperation strategy until 2030, an action plan for the implementation of economic development until 2030, an investor association and mechanisms for financial support of project activities. These agreements reflect growing economic activity within the SCO, especially from China.

Despite the traditional focus on security, transport and logistics projects were also touched upon at this summit. The presidents of the Central Asian countries discussed the development of regional transport corridors, such as the Trans-Caspian route and the trans-Eurasian North-South corridors. With increasing business activity and trade volumes in the region, expanding transport infrastructure is becoming a priority, requiring significant investment and time.
