Kazakhstan investment company Semurg Invest and AD Ports Group (UAE) signed an agreement on key terms for the creation of a new multi-purpose terminal “Sarzha” in the port of Kuryk on the Caspian Sea. The joint venture will design, finance, build and manage the terminal, which will specialize in the transshipment of general, container and bulk cargo.

By 2030, it is planned to increase the terminal’s throughput capacity to 10 million tons per year. The signing of the agreement took place as part of the official visit of the Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed Al Nahyan to Kazakhstan and became part of a package of more than 20 contracts worth a total of $5 billion.

Earlier in 2024, Semurg Invest and AD Ports had already created a joint venture for the construction of a grain terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year. In addition, a shipping company was registered together with Freeseas Container Shipping, which has already received its first vessel, NASIPKALI MARABAYEV. By 2027, the fleet is planned to be increased to six vessels.
