Administration of the seaports of Szczecin and Świnujście S.A. signed an agreement on co-financing the project “Construction of a multimodal railway transshipment hub on the Ostrow Grabowski Peninsula in the Port of Szczecin” (MULTIRAILHUB). The project received funding under the CEF Transport competition: Adaptation of the TEN-T network for dual civil and defense use. The total cost of the project is 8.7 million euros, of which 4.3 million euros will be covered by the grant. The start of the project is scheduled for June 2024, completion is planned for November 2026.
The project includes two main elements: the construction of an 11,000 square meter rail transfer station with a loading capacity of 100 kilonewtons per square meter and the reconstruction of the existing ro-ro ramp at the quay. The new infrastructure will allow two 750-meter-long trains to be loaded simultaneously. The expanded ro-ro ramp will be capable of handling large ro-ro vessels up to 240 meters long and up to 34 meters wide.
This multimodal hub will ensure efficient transshipment of intermodal units and military equipment, as well as improve transport links in the Baltic-Adriatic and North-Baltic corridors. The investment will improve the security of the EU’s borders and NATO’s eastern flank, promoting sustainable development of rail transport and supporting the TEN-T network’s priorities of coherence, efficiency and sustainable development.
