The development of cargo transportation between China and Azerbaijan was discussed in Baku.

A meeting with the delegation of the international port of Xi’an from China was held at the office of Azerbaijan Railways JSC (ADY). Head of ADY Rovshan Rustamov emphasized the active cooperation between Azerbaijan and China in the framework of transportation along the Middle Corridor. An important milestone was the recent dispatch of the first export railway cargo from Baku to China.

The meeting noted the significance of this event for the economic and transport ties of the two countries. The development of cargo transportation in both directions enhances the efficiency of the Middle Corridor, which is in line with the goals of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. Projects to turn Azerbaijan into an international transport and logistics hub were also discussed, including the expansion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to increase throughput to 5 million tons per year.

The Chinese delegation, led by representatives of the port of Xi’an, emphasized the importance of increasing cooperation with Azerbaijani logistics structures. The first Baku-Xi’an train is already carrying 62 containers, and by the end of the year it is planned to send 600 containers (15,000 tons). In 2025, the number of trains on this route will triple, reaching 1,000 trains.
