In the first quarter of 2025, the Port of Klaipeda handled 9.75 million tons of cargo, 15% more than in the same period last year. The growth of 1.3 million tons was driven by record figures in the container and LNG cargo segments. Klaipeda’s share among the Baltic ports grew to almost 41%, strengthening its leading position in the market.
The most significant contribution to the growth was made by container cargo, the volume of which increased by a third (+33%, or 723 thousand tons), reaching a record quarterly figure. The volume of LNG handling increased by 18% to 100 thousand tons. Significant growth was also demonstrated by construction materials and minerals (+62%), bulk fertilizers (+92%), as well as Ro-Ro cargo and oil products (both categories – +7%).
Despite the overall positive dynamics, a decrease was recorded in several areas: agricultural products (-19%), timber and timber products (-10%), liquid fertilizers (-81%). The main flow of cargo arrived at the port by road (62%) and by rail (28%). A total of 12 vessels have been repaired at the port since the beginning of the year.
