The port of Kuryk is actively developing infrastructure, and large-scale dredging work is underway. According to the general director of the port, Serik Akhmetov, the bottom is planned to be deepened by 1.5-2 meters, which will allow reaching a depth of 36.5 meters according to the “Baltic mark”. This will make it possible to increase the port water area to 7-7.5 meters.
The work is being carried out as part of a comprehensive port infrastructure development plan. The head of the marketing sector of the Aitkali port, Nurmagambetov, said that the dredging project will be completed by the end of the year. The lead company selected for the work will create five additional berths, significantly expanding the port’s capabilities.
Port Kuryk, thanks to its improvements, will receive one of the best water areas in the Caspian Sea. The Sarzha multifunctional sea terminal will increase cargo turnover by 11 million tons per year, and the new grain terminal with a capacity of one million tons per year will help increase grain exports from Kazakhstan to Iran and the Caucasus region. The port’s total capacity for ferry cargo is six million tons.
