During the peak grain handling season in Latvia, the Port of Riga implemented a digital solution to manage truck traffic. Since August, more than 597,000 tons of agricultural products, including wheat and rapeseed, have been shipped through the terminals, with Spain, Germany, and African countries the main export destinations. A total of 15 terminals on both banks of the Daugava River are operating during the season.

To reduce congestion at the approaches to the terminals, the port launched the i.rop electronic system, which allows shippers to submit documents in advance and receive digital confirmation of terminal access. This solution speeds up vehicle processing, reduces downtime, and eases congestion on city roads.

The system is integrated with Riga municipal services, allowing for more efficient control of shipments on streets previously restricted to trucks. Authorities note that the digital platform is the first step toward fully managing cargo flows in the capital and preparing for the introduction of eCMR electronic consignment notes (eCMR) throughout Latvia.
