The return of train ferries: new opportunities for logistics.

The resumption of rail transport across the Baltic Sea by ferry has been made possible by recent infrastructure investments. In early August, a batch of rail cars from the Swedish port of Ystad arrived at the ferry terminal in Świnoujście. The container platforms were transported on the ferry Polonia and then headed to southern Poland for repairs. This is the second such transport in recent months, and another is expected in August.

The expansion and modernization of the ferry terminal in Świnoujście, completed last autumn, allowed the safe and efficient reception of rail transport to resume. Importantly, this terminal is the only one in Poland adapted to handle rail ferries. Further investments in its development are planned for the near future.

The return to the practice of transporting rail cars by ferry opens up new opportunities for logistics and transportation, which has a positive impact on the economy of the region and expands the transport corridors between Poland and Sweden.
