The Port of Gdańsk Authority has signed a contract with the general contractor Budimex for the reconstruction of the Węglowe quay in the Inner Port. The project, worth PLN 127 million, will be completed by the end of 2027 and will make the port more attractive to logistics operators and carriers. The work will be carried out in two stages: first, 252 meters of the quay will be modernized, then another 294 meters. It is planned to build a new reinforced concrete platform, crane tracks, water supply and drainage systems, as well as deepen the water area to 11.2 m.

The reconstruction of the Węglowe quay is part of a large-scale project to modernize the port infrastructure, 85% financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF 2). As part of this project, the Rudowe III and Bytomskie quays are already being renovated, and the reconstruction of Wiślane is in the near future. Port President Dorota Pycz stressed that the project will improve cargo handling efficiency, increase flexibility of operations and create conditions for the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies.

The Węglowe berth, located in the Gornacki Basin, has historically played an important role in handling bulk cargo, especially coal and metal ores. Due to its technical condition, it is partially unused, but after modernization it will be able to handle vessels with a draft of up to 10.6 m and a lifting capacity of up to 100,000 DWT, as well as operate with LHM 550 and Mantsinen 300 equipment.
