In Kazakhstan, construction of three new airports has begun in popular resort areas – Zaysan, Katon-Karagay and Kendirli. The projects are being implemented in strategically important locations: in Zaysan, the airport is being built on the basis of the former military airfield named after Satpayev, in Katon-Karagay – between the villages of Katon-Karagay and Ulken Naryn, and in Kendirli it will appear 13 kilometers from the resort area.
Each of the airports will receive a 2,200-meter runway with the possibility of subsequent extension to accommodate wide-body airliners. The new infrastructure is designed to improve the transport accessibility of resort regions and stimulate the development of tourism.
The timing of the projects and their cost have not yet been disclosed, but the aviation authorities emphasize the importance of construction for the development of domestic and inbound tourism in the country.
