Track laying work has begun on the Rail Baltica section near Jonava in Lithuania—a crucial stage in the construction of the European gauge (1435 mm). Completion of the 8.8 km of track between the towns of Shvejci and Žeimiai is scheduled for the end of the year. LTG Infra has already purchased 86,200 tons of ballast, 29,500 reinforced concrete sleepers, and 42 km of rails for the project, which will be laid using modern technologies.

Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas noted that Rail Baltica is transforming from a concept into a reality, providing the country not only with modern transport links but also strengthening security in the entire Baltic region and the EU’s eastern border. He added that the new railway will allow Lithuanians to travel to Western Europe more quickly and conveniently.

The project is being implemented by LTG Infra, a member of the LTG Group. Its director, Vytis Žalimas, emphasized that every euro invested brings at least a double return to the state, creating long-term economic and social value. The superstructure on the Switzerland–Žeimai section is being laid by a joint venture between Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) and Leonhard Weiss OÜ (Estonia) under a contract worth 18.8 million euros. Upon completion, the line will be electrified under the largest contract in the history of the Baltics, worth 2.14 billion euros, signed with COBELEC Rail Baltica.
