Ukrzaliznytsia JSC has signed contracts with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation (HGBF) worth $9.2 million for the purchase of modern spare parts manufacturing equipment. According to Yevhen Shramko, a member of the company’s board of directors overseeing the Repair and Production division, the agreements provide for the supply of over 20 units of high-precision industrial and innovative equipment, including lathes and milling machines, 3D printers, scanners, thermal units, and other technologies.

The new equipment will allow Ukrzaliznytsia, for the first time, to establish its own production of critical components that have not been imported to Ukraine for over five years and have no local equivalents. These include components for diesel engines and wheel-motor units, which is particularly important, as over 60% of the company’s locomotive fleet requires major repairs or refurbishment.

According to Shramko, this is not just a technical upgrade, but a strategic investment in the safety, technological independence, and sustainability of Ukrainian railways.
