Ukrzaliznytsia plans to restore sea transportation by the ferries “Geroi Plevny” and “Geroi Shipki” as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian route. These vessels will be used to transport container trains between the Caspian region and the Black Sea, connecting the ports of Baku, Poti and Odessa. Thus, the company will become an operator of not only railway but also sea transportation, providing a comprehensive logistics service on the China-Europe route.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia will create a new legal entity UZ Cargo East in Kazakhstan, which will work on the development of the middle corridor. This decision has already been approved by the company’s supervisory board, and its goal is to strengthen UZ’s presence in the international logistics market. The project is supported by the governments of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, which will help expand the transport capabilities of the region.
The next discussion of the initiative will take place in two weeks in Baku with the participation of representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia. Although the exact launch dates for the route have not yet been announced, the company plans to ensure the transportation of at least two container trains per day, which will significantly increase cargo turnover between Asia and Europe.
