This is the final step in the company\u2019s long-term strategy to reduce its environmental footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, 90% of SBB\u2019s energy consumption was covered by hydroelectric power and the remaining 10% by nuclear power, which is now sold on the market. At the same time, the company purchases an equivalent amount of electricity from certified renewable sources, which has made it possible to completely eliminate the use of nuclear energy.<\/p>\n<p>According to SBB, Swiss rail transport accounts for only 0.3% of all CO\u2082 emissions in the country\u2019s transport sector.
