As Asem Mukhamediyeva, Managing Director for New Projects and Marketing, noted that key areas remain the development of dry ports and terminals at hubs along international routes, as well as the creation of a container hub at the port of Aktau. These projects are designed to improve the sustainability, speed, and scalability of logistics services. One of the strategic facilities remains the Khorgos Gateway dry port on the border with China, which plays a vital role in handling cargo flows between China, Central Asia, and Europe.

Khorgos Gateway, launched in 2015, continues to modernize and expand its capacity. In 2024, the dry port’s throughput capacity was increased from 540,000 to 800,000 TEUs per year thanks to the construction of ten additional 1520mm gauge tracks. This stage continued the development of the railway infrastructure, including the previously commissioned 1435mm gauge tracks. This expansion has increased the flexibility of managing railcar and container flows, reduced rolling stock downtime, and facilitated the formation of direct container trains. A routine uncoupling repair facility has also been established at the terminal, allowing railcar repairs to be carried out directly on-site and expediting cargo operations. Going forward, the company is considering measures to optimize technological processes and train access routes to the dry port, including the possibility of creating a bypass connecting section to relieve congestion at Altynkol station.

Another important KTZ Express project is the container hub at the port of Aktau, implemented by the KTZ group of companies jointly with the Chinese Lianyungang Port Group. The capacity of the first phase of the facility is 140,000 TEUs per year. The project included the construction of approximately 3 km of railway tracks and the creation of a container yard covering approximately 20,000 square meters. The hub covers an area of 1,000 square meters and is equipped with two rail-mounted gantry cranes with a lifting capacity of 41 tons—equipment of this class has never been used in Kazakhstan. The hub is equipped with modern handling equipment and all necessary infrastructure, including access roads, administrative buildings, and utility lines. The first phase was commissioned in December 2025, and full operation, following completion of commissioning, is scheduled for March 2026. According to company representatives, the development of such facilities is considered not only for financial reasons but also as an element of a unified logistics system that improves the efficiency of transport corridors and the quality of service for customers.

KTZ Express continues to implement major infrastructure projects aimed at creating a new architecture for international transportation in Kazakhstan.
