Despite this, the combined transport operator maintained a positive financial result and earned a profit of CHF 3.5 million. Revenue increased by 3.1% to CHF 646 million, but rising costs and unfavorable exchange rates led to a decline in gross margin to 21.6% and EBIT to 1.9%. Over the year, the company transported approximately 975,000 road shipments, or 1.853 million TEUs. Volumes on Hupac’s key transalpine route through Switzerland increased by 4.5% to 560,000 shipments, including increased freight volumes on the Belgium-Italy corridor.

The company is actively adapting to unstable infrastructure conditions through its new RadicalShift2Rail operating model, which focuses on concentrating flows between large terminals and launching high-frequency shuttles with four to six departures per day. At the end of 2025, the first such routes, Cologne Nord – Busto Arsizio and Ludwigshafen – Busto Arsizio, opened with a frequency of up to 30 pairs of trains per week. In early 2026, Hupac strengthened its market position with the launch of the Duisburg – Novara service and a 50% increase in capacity on the Basel – Busto Arsizio line, enabling it to shift some freight from the rolling stock, which was closed at the end of 2025, to unaccompanied intermodal transport, thereby maintaining these volumes on rail.

Hupac is also investing in developing its terminal network and expanding its geographic reach. The Piacenza terminal began operations in 2025, with Milano Smistamento scheduled to open in 2027. In early 2026, the Barcelona Combiconnect terminal was integrated into the network, linking the Iberian Peninsula to the European intermodal system. The company expects that following the completion of major infrastructure projects on the Rhine-Alpine Corridor in Germany and Northern Italy, the market will return to growth by 2029. The Swiss parliament’s decision to extend subsidies for transalpine combined transport beyond 2030 provides additional stability to the sector, providing market participants with long-term investment predictability.

Swiss company Hupac has announced its financial results for the 2025 financial year, which was marked by challenging conditions due to extensive construction work on the European rail network.
