In parallel with ongoing operations, construction is ongoing to transform the facility into CargoBeamer\u2019s first terminal in Germany. The project is on schedule, and the first of two expansion phases is scheduled to open in early 2027.<\/p>\n<p>For several years, CargoBeamer has operated the intermodal route between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola, handling bulk shipments of non-crane-mounted semi-trailers by rail. Currently, 20 round trips per week are operated on this route, making it one of the most frequent intermodal routes in Europe. Units are currently handled in Kaldenkirchen using reach stackers, but with the implementation of CargoBeamer\u2019s proprietary horizontal technology, fully automated handling of all types of semi-trailers will be possible.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the modernization, the terminal\u2019s annual throughput will double to 140,000 loading units by 2027. Once the expansion is complete, capacity will exceed 200,000 units per year, more than tripling the pre-project level.
