This project is part of the modernization of the Karlsruhe\u2013Basel section and forms a segment of the European Rotterdam\u2013Genoa freight corridor. Two additional tracks will be laid alongside the A5 motorway; consequently, the Rhine Valley Railway will feature four tracks in the future, thereby enabling an increase in train traffic volume.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company notes that shifting freight traffic to the new line will yield significant benefits for both the railway system and local residents. Once the facility becomes operational, approximately 50,000 fewer freight trains will pass through Freiburg and neighboring communities annually. This will help reduce noise levels and improve the quality of life for the local population, while also freeing up track capacity to facilitate the expansion of regional and long-distance passenger services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Construction officially began with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony held near the municipality of Reute, attended by representatives from Deutsche Bahn, the federal government, and state authorities.
