The leaders of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were briefed on the joint work of experts from the two countries aimed at accelerating the development of the Middle Corridor—a key transport route connecting China and Central Asian countries with Europe. Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan, Asel Zhanasova, presented a detailed plan for modernizing and expanding infrastructure to support increased freight traffic.
The increasing volume of transit traffic from China to Azerbaijan was identified as the main driver for the route’s development. Currently, cargo delivery from the Chinese border to Georgian ports takes 15–18 days, and by 2030, freight traffic along this route could triple. The Middle Corridor is viewed as a strategic alternative to northern routes and a key element of Eurasian transport integration.
During the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev were presented with specific measures to improve the route’s efficiency and competitiveness, including the development of port, rail, and digital infrastructure. The heads of state noted the importance of further strengthening the partnership to transform the Middle Corridor into a sustainable and attractive international transit route.
