Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan presented the modernized Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route.

At a joint meeting of JSC NC KTZ and CJSC Azerbaijan Railways, the modernized Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route was presented to Kazakhstani shippers. The meeting participants discussed the route’s prospects, its capacity, tariffs and terminal capabilities. The main topic was increasing the efficiency of cargo transportation between Asia and Europe, bypassing the Black Sea ports.

Head of the Integrated Planning Directorate Vadim Kopylov noted that joint efforts to integrate railway networks and develop infrastructure have led to a significant increase in cargo transportation. In particular, in the first seven months of this year, transportation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan reached 3.2 million tons, which is 37% more than last year.

The modernization of the route has increased its capacity to 5 million tons of cargo per year. A road show is planned in the near future to demonstrate the new capabilities of the route and discuss further cooperation.
