The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece, Erlan Baudarbek-Kozhataev, and the Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, have agreed to foster collaboration between the cities of Aktau and Piraeus. Mayor Moralis outlined growth strategies for Piraeus, Greece’s largest port, emphasizing its strategic feeder connections to the Mediterranean, Black, and Adriatic seas, coupled with vital rail and road links to Balkan and Central European countries.

Ambassador Baudarbek-Kozhataev underscored the potential for Kazakhstan-Greece cooperation in optimizing logistical opportunities along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), leveraging the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk. Moralis expressed keen interest in long-lasting partnerships with Aktau, focusing on economic, tourism, and cultural ties. The Ambassador, in collaboration with Nurlan Nogaev, the head of Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region government, extended an invitation for a Piraeus delegation to visit Aktau soon.

Piraeus, ranking as the fourth largest European port, holds a pivotal role in Mediterranean international transportation, handling approximately 4.35 million TEU of sea containers in 2022. The Middle Corridor, connecting China and the EU via Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe, facilitates efficient cargo movement, supporting a route train delivery from China to Europe in 20-25 days, a significant advantage of this transport corridor.
