The development of the transport and logistics industry was discussed at a meeting of the government of Kazakhstan. Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov reported that there are 13 international transport corridors in the country, and active work is underway to eliminate infrastructure constraints. Among the priorities are the development of new routes, digitalization of processes and increasing the capacity of key areas, such as the TITR and the North-South corridor, which will be able to handle up to 20 million tons of cargo by 2030.
By 2029, a large-scale repair of 11 thousand kilometers of railway tracks is planned, of which 2.8 thousand have already been updated. Work is underway to expand the capabilities of the Kuryk seaport and create a grain terminal. Together with Abu Dhabi Ports, a new sea terminal project “Sarzha” is being implemented, which will increase the port capacity to 30 million tons per year.
In addition, 12 thousand kilometers of roads are being reconstructed, with seven thousand to be completed this year, and 36 checkpoints on the borders of the EAEU are being modernized. As a result of all measures, exports by rail will reach 130 million tons, and transit volumes will increase sixfold. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed to ensure the timely implementation of all projects.
