According to the National Statistics Bureau, 111.3 million tons of cargo were transported by rail in Kazakhstan in January-March 2025, which is 14.9% more than in the same period last year. Cargo turnover amounted to 83.7 billion ton-kilometers, an increase of 10.3%. Passenger transportation also showed growth: 4.7 million people used trains, and passenger turnover reached 3.6 billion passenger-kilometers.
Sea transportation showed especially significant growth: the volume of cargo increased by 56% to 1.02 million tons. Cargo turnover of sea transport amounted to 478.4 million ton-kilometers, which is 21.4% more than in the first quarter of 2024.
In total, 269.6 million tons of cargo were transported by all modes of transport in the country, which is 13.9% more than a year earlier. Total freight turnover increased by 14.3%, amounting to 137.5 billion tonne-kilometers. Rail transport, including due to record volumes of grain transportation, remains the main driver of logistics growth.
