Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has completed a key stage of the Dostyk-Moyynty megaproject.

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has completed the main stage of construction of second tracks on the strategic Dostyk-Moiynty section, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s transit potential. The new railway corridor connects East and West, creating additional opportunities for increasing freight traffic, removing infrastructure constraints, and enhancing Kazakhstan’s competitiveness as a key logistics hub in Eurasia.

With the addition of the second tracks, the section’s capacity will increase from 12 to 60 pairs of trains per day, and freight volume from China could reach 35 million tonnes by 2025. Work on the line was completed in stages: service opened on the Moiynty-Balkhash, Beskol-Dostyk, Aktogay-Sayak, Balkhash-Sayak, and Sayak-Aktogay sections. The project, initially scheduled for five years, was completed ahead of schedule—in three years. A modern interlocking station, providing digital traffic control and improved safety, has been commissioned at Dostyk station.

The development of the Dostyk-Moiynty section is part of a large-scale program to modernize Kazakhstan’s transport infrastructure. The country is also implementing projects to increase the capacity of the Altynkol-Zhetygen line and construct a new Kyzylzhar-Moiynty highway. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan’s export and transit potential and cementing its role as a key transport hub in Eurasia.
