Kazakhstan will double its freight traffic by 2029.

The Kazakh government has unveiled plans for the large-scale development of transport infrastructure and the digitalization of logistics. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin, the volume of freight traffic in the country will double by 2029 as part of the implementation of the President’s instructions.

Key projects include the construction of new railway lines from Bakhty to Ayagoz and the Saksaul to Beineu highway, which will enhance the country’s transit potential. The launch of a unified digital system for customs and logistics services, Smart Cargo, and the creation of a national cargo air carrier are planned for 2026.

Zhumangarin emphasized that this set of measures is aimed at developing a modern transport and logistics system and strengthening Kazakhstan’s role as a key transit hub between Europe and Asia.
