Since the beginning of 2025, 4,476 freight trains have passed through the Khorgos railway border crossing on the China-Europe and Central Asia routes, an increase of 26.7% compared to the same period last year. Today, more than 80 routes connecting 18 countries pass through Khorgos. This growth confirms the strategic role of the crossing in the development of international logistics within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
An important step in strengthening humanitarian ties was the launch of the first tourist train on the Xi’an-Almaty-Xi’an route in June. According to Li Jiang, deputy director of Khorgos Customs, this route has opened a new direction for cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Central Asia.
Border tourism is also developing at an equally impressive rate: in the first five months of 2025, the number of visits to the Kazakh-Chinese border cooperation center “Khorgos” increased by 87.2% and reached 3.893 million person-times.
