KTMB and MMF target ASEAN – China cross-border rail freight coordination.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Malaysian Maritime and Logistics Holdings Berhad (MMF) conducted a regional working visit to Thailand, Laos and China in January 2026, focusing on operational coordination for rail and multimodal freight flows between ASEAN and China.

Engagements with the State Railway of Thailand and Thanaleng Dry Port in Laos addressed practical issues affecting international rail freight, including border processing, dry port integration and continuity of services across national networks. In China, meetings with China Railway Container Transport and China Railway International Multimodal Transport focused on the alignment of rail-based and multimodal services serving ASEAN–China traffic.

As part of the visit, MMF signed a memorandum of understanding with China Railway International Multimodal Transport setting out a framework for cooperation on multimodal logistics linked to ASEAN–China corridors. The agreement does not define traffic volumes or timelines but establishes a basis for coordination between operators and logistics providers on cross-border services.
