A memorandum of understanding was signed in Hamburg between a number of Latvian and German organizations, with the leading Latvian telecommunications company LMT among the key participants. The document is aimed at developing cooperation and implementing digital solutions in the maritime and port sector, in particular in the field of infrastructure management and innovation in communications technology.

The signatories include LMT, the Latvian Electronic Communications Agency, the Free Port of Riga, the ports of Hamburg and their technical services. The project includes the creation of working groups that will deal with the implementation of 5G infrastructure, monitoring of port infrastructure using AI and cybersecurity. Teams of experts have already begun working together, and pilot projects are being prepared, which will be supervised by LMT and the Hamburg Port Authority.

As LMT Vice President Ingmars Puikis noted, the ports of Riga and Hamburg are becoming leaders in digitalisation: “The introduction of modern technologies is not only a matter of efficiency and sustainability, but also a strategic advantage in international logistics. We have already demonstrated the capabilities of 5G networks in the port of Riga, and this is just the beginning.”
