SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš has announced an open tender for the modernization of passenger rail infrastructure on the Riga-Lugaži line, including the Jugla and Garkalne stations. The project includes the construction and renovation of platforms, tracks, pedestrian infrastructure and lighting, ensuring the accessibility of rail transport for all passengers, including people with limited mobility.

The work is being carried out as part of a large-scale station and stop modernization program designed to last until 2028. Within its framework, platforms have already been built in the Jurmala, Jelgava and Krustpils directions, and by 2026, at least 45 stations in other regions of Latvia will be renovated. The program is financed by the EU and Latvijas dzelzceļš, the total budget of the second stage is 52.9 million euros.

By 2029, it is planned to build new platforms at 97 stations – this is 70% of all passenger stops in the country. In the coming years, the work will cover the Jelgava, Skulte, Ogre, Tukums, Lugaži, Bolderaja lines, as well as the Liepaja, Aizkraukle, Rezekne and Daugavpils directions.
