Lithuanian rail freight operator LTG Cargo, part of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LTG), has signed a contract to purchase 200 gondola cars from Ukrainian company TAS Dneprvagonmash. The deal is valued at EUR 12.7 million and is aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the construction materials transportation segment.

The first cars are scheduled to be delivered between February and April 2025. The gondola cars will be used to transport weather-resistant bulk cargo such as dolomite, crushed granite and metals.

LTG Cargo CEO Eglė Šime emphasized that the transportation of construction materials is the company’s key focus. In recent years, this segment has grown significantly due to active road construction and reconstruction in Lithuania.

According to LTG Cargo, the share of minerals and construction materials in the company’s total cargo transportation volume was 21% last year. This figure is expected to increase further due to major infrastructure projects, including Via Baltica and Rail Baltica.
