From 1 January 2025, Lithuanian freight rail company LTG Cargo will begin the gradual liquidation of its wagon fleet, replacing it with a privately owned fleet of 6,000 units managed by LTG Cargo. The new wagons will be used in two ways: for long-term lease and for one-off services, with 10% of the wagons allocated to the reserve fleet.

The main focus will be on long-term wagon lease, which will provide customers with a stable number of wagons regardless of seasonal fluctuations and allow them to choose the optimal lease term. It is expected that 90% of the private fleet will be used for this purpose, which will increase wagon turnover and increase the volume of transported cargo.

LTG Cargo will also undertake major and scheduled repairs of wagons on long-term lease and in the reserve fleet. These changes will only affect wagons managed by LTG Cargo, while wagons shared with railway administrations of other countries will continue to operate on the Lithuanian railway network.
