Italian company Marcegaglia has acquired an LHM 600 mobile harbour crane, marking the 2,000th crane produced by Liebherr. The milestone underlines five decades of innovation in the shipbuilding industry. The new crane, which will be the sixth Liebherr in Marcegaglia’s fleet, will be used in the port of Ravenna to handle steel products including coils, sheets and strips. With its hydrostatic drive and precise control systems, the LHM 600 will ensure flexibility and efficiency in logistics operations.

The anniversary crane features a unique slewing platform with a design that reflects the partnership between Liebherr and Marcegaglia. One side is decorated in Italian style, depicting the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna and port workers, while the other features German motifs, including the Rostock lighthouse, where the crane was manufactured. This symbol combines German engineering precision and Italian passion for innovation, strengthening the collaboration between the two companies.

The delivery of the LHM 600 to Ravenna will be a major step in the modernisation of the port infrastructure. Marcegaglia, which started using Liebherr cranes in 2001, continues to expand its capacity, improving logistics and operational efficiency. The official handover of the crane will take place in the summer, highlighting the importance of a long-term partnership.
