MG Real Estate and Yusen Logistics have opened the largest pharmaceutical warehouse in Wallonia.

MG Real Estate and Yusen Logistics Benelux have unveiled a cutting-edge pharmaceutical warehouse in Gembloux, Wallonia. Spanning 40,000 m², this facility is the largest biopharmaceutical logistics center in Wallonia and features advanced technologies such as autonomous mobile robots and automated packaging systems. The warehouse, which runs entirely on green energy and holds a BREEAM “Very Good” certification, will enable Belgium’s leading pharmaceutical company to store and export millions of vaccines and raw materials to over 160 countries. The inauguration was graced by Willy Borsus, Vice-President of the Walloon Government and Minister of Economy & Research.

The Yusen Logistics Distribution Centre, valued at €50 million, is the largest in Wallonia and a key part of GSK’s global network. With the capacity to house up to 42,000 pallets, including a 7,000 m² cold storage area and a 700 m² freezer compartment, the center is set to become operational following a successful audit by Belgian health authorities. The facility will utilize advanced technologies, including autonomous mobile robots and high-capacity shuttles, to manage raw materials and distribute vaccines efficiently, with an export rate of 1 million doses daily to over 160 countries.

Designed for sustainability, the center is certified to the BREEAM “Excellent” standard and operates on 100% green energy, featuring solar panels and an intelligent energy management system. These efforts align with GSK’s goal of running entirely on renewable electricity by 2025 and achieving a net positive impact on nature by 2030. Automated processes for road and sea transport, coupled with semi-automated preparations for air transport, will ensure faster delivery times and enhanced flexibility to meet global patient needs.
