METRANS commenced its services connecting to Ukraine back in 2022, facilitating the transportation of various cargoes between the Slovak/Ukrainian border. Recently, during the European Eastern holidays, a significant milestone was achieved as METRANS and Ukrzeleznitsa collaborated to initiate the first train at the Medyka border between Poland and Ukraine.

This inaugural train marks the beginning of regular transportation between European networks and key Ukrainian cities like Kiev and Odessa, where HHLA’s terminal CTO operates. Martin Koubek, overseeing connections from METRANS network to countries with 1520mm rail tracks, emphasized the importance of this project for facilitating cargo movement to and from Ukraine. The collaboration between Ukrzeleznitsa, METRANS, and the Ukrainian Intermodal Company, a part of the HHLA group, underscores a commitment to providing reliable services to clients. Moving forward, the planned connection will operate regularly between METRANS’ terminal in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, and Mostyska in Ukraine, facilitating seamless cargo deliveries across Europe and Ukraine.
