PERN and Colas Rail Polska have entered into an agreement for the construction of railway infrastructure at the PERN fuel depot in Nowa Wies Wielka. This initiative aims to double the capacity of petroleum products by rail, meeting the growing demand of PERN customers for this mode of transport.
The investment is intended to optimize logistics in terms of speed, cost-effectiveness and volume, facilitating the import of fuel from the Debogórze fuel center and the transport of fuel from the Gdańsk Refinery to the south.
On Monday 15 July, PERN signed a contract with Colas Rail Polska for the construction of extensive railway facilities and new departure tracks at PERN Base No. 2 in Nowa Wielka. These infrastructure investments reflect market and customer needs for rail transportation of petroleum products, improving railcar service and significantly increasing unloading efficiency.
The new railway facilities will meet strict environmental and safety standards. Future plans include using an expanded rail line at the PERN base in Nowa Wys Wielka to process new products such as hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO), a biofuel alternative to diesel.
The project involves the construction of 21 two-way unloading stations capable of simultaneously serving up to 30 railway tanks, each of which is equipped with three connection points for various petroleum products, including diesel fuel, gasoline and fuel oil. In addition, for efficient maintenance of railway tanks, new sections of track with a total length of 3.5 km will be built.
Completion of the railway infrastructure at the PERN fuel depot in Nowa Wes Wielka is scheduled for 2025. This facility plays a crucial role in Poland’s fuel supply system, being the largest fuel base in the country.
