The Port of Rotterdam, ZeroNorth and Vitol have completed their first digital bunker delivery, launching a four-week trial of the electronic Bunker Delivery Note (eBDN). As part of the project, Vitol will carry out three to four bunkerings using the ZeroNorth solution. The aim of the trial is to evaluate the benefits of the digital format, such as time savings, increased operational efficiency and improved data quality.

A successful pilot project could make Rotterdam the first port in Europe to implement a digital bunkering system. This move is inspired by the experience of Singapore, which became the first port in the world to commit to the eBDN. Rotterdam and Singapore are actively collaborating within the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor, aiming to make international maritime shipping more sustainable and efficient.

Once the trial is complete, the eBDN system is planned to be integrated into the operational processes of the port and its suppliers, forming the basis for the full digitalization of bunkering operations.
