The Railport railway terminal in northwestern Turkey dispatched its first train, officially opening operations as the country’s first intermodal terminal. The project was implemented by a joint venture between Turkey’s Arkas and Germany’s Duisport, which positions Railport as the end point of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway corridor and a key element of international logistics.

The partnership between Arkas and Duisport was established in 2015, but active development became possible after receiving financing in 2019: $30 million each from the EBRD and China’s ICBC. Construction began in September 2023, and the total project cost was estimated at $86 million.

Railport is being built in three stages and is designed to handle 360,000 TEU containers per year, 1.5 million tons of general cargo, 120,000 vehicles (CEU) and 125,000 trailers, making it one of Turkey’s largest logistics projects and an important hub on the route between Europe and Asia.
