RB Rail AS, representing the interests of the Baltic ministries of transport in the Rail Baltica project, has applied for funding under the CEF-Digital programme. The objective is to develop and build railway radio communications compliant with the FRMCS standard, with the possibility of deploying 5G networks along the European TEN-T transport corridors.

The project includes the creation of the first phase of the passive infrastructure of Rail Baltica, including the design and construction of 99 radio towers on a 297 km section (approximately 30% of the main line). This will ensure modern communications for train and passenger traffic management, as well as the installation of dark fibre in Estonia and local connection points. RB Rail AS emphasises that the project will improve the digital integration of Rail Baltica with the European transport network.

The CEF-Digital programme supports large-scale pan-European initiatives, including the development of 5G networks on key transport routes. The evaluation of applications is expected by the summer of 2025.
