HHLA opened the first hydrogen station in the port of Hamburg.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has launched a pioneering test field for hydrogen-powered port logistics at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) in the Port of Hamburg. This includes the inauguration of a hydrogen refuelling station, marking a significant step towards decarbonising port operations. Angela Titzrath, CEO of HHLA, along with other key officials, celebrated the launch by successfully refuelling a hydrogen-powered tractor unit. This new infrastructure supports the transition to emissions-free logistics by enabling various heavy goods vehicles and port equipment to be refuelled with green hydrogen.

The World Shipping Council reports record low container losses in 2023.

The World Shipping Council (WSC) has published its 2024 report on containers lost at sea, revealing a significant drop to just 221 containers lost in 2023. This marks the lowest number since the survey’s inception in 2008. Despite this progress, the WSC emphasizes the necessity for ongoing stringent safety measures, as each lost container represents a substantial risk.

CMA CGM launches FRENCH PEAK SERVICE to increase shipping capacity.

CMA CGM Group has introduced the FRENCH PEAK SERVICE, an exceptional seasonal shipping service, to address the surge in demand for maritime transport between Asia, Northern Europe, and the Mediterranean. From June 30 to early September, seven additional vessels with a capacity of 7,000 TEUs will depart bi-weekly from China to various destinations, including Northern Europe (Le Havre, Antwerp) and the Mediterranean (Fos-sur-Mer, Malta). The first departure, featuring the vessel APL OREGON, is set for June 30 from Yantian.

Singapore port crisis: Cargo delays reach critical level.

Ship congestion and cargo delays at Singapore’s port have reached critical levels since the COVID-19 pandemic as container lines reroute around the Red Sea. The crisis is also affecting other Asian and European ports, leaving industries grappling with rising tariffs, the need to find alternate ports and a shortage of empty containers. Global port congestion has reached an 18-month high, with 60% of ships idled at anchorages in Asia, according to analyst firm Linerlytica.

Грузопереработка в украинских морских портах в 2024 году существенно выросла.

По данным Администрации морских портов Украины (АМПУ), за первое полугодие 2024 года украинские морские порты перевалили 52,7 млн тонн грузов, что значительно превышает показатель за аналогичный период 2023 года (31,3 млн тонн).

В Литве началось строительство первого водородно-электрического судна.

В истории литовского судоходства началась новая глава: судостроительный завод Western Baltija Shipbuilding (WBS) начал строительство первого в истории страны судна на водородно-электрической тяге. По заказу Клайпедского государственного морского порта судно будет использоваться для утилизации отходов и станет символом прогресса Литвы и её стремления к снижению воздействия на окружающую среду. Этот проект демонстрирует способность привлекать высококвалифицированных специалистов для реализации инновационных проектов.

Discussion of the Aktau port container hub project.

For three days, specialists from the port of Aktau, KTZ Express, the port of Lianyungang and the KITNG company discussed optimization of the layout and technological processes for the projected container hub of the Aktau port. The first stage of construction involves the creation of capacities for processing 70-80 thousand TEU with the possibility of increasing volumes in the future.
