The port of Antwerp-Bruges increased cargo turnover by 3% in nine months.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges handled 210.5 million tonnes of cargo in the first nine months of 2024, up 3% year-on-year. This indicates a stabilisation in cargo volumes compared to the second quarter. Container transport remains the main growth driver, despite ongoing geopolitical and economic instability that affects other types of cargo. The port continues to invest in innovative and sustainable projects, supporting the energy transition and industrial growth.

The development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route was discussed in Kazakhstan.

The Ministry of Transport held a meeting dedicated to the development of maritime infrastructure and increasing the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Participants noted that the TITR is a key transit corridor between the East and the West, and that cargo volumes have more than doubled over the past two years.

ASCO acquired a second bulk carrier “Handysize”.

Within the framework of the Strategic Shipping Development Program approved by the Supervisory Board of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) CJSC upon the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, the company has completed the acquisition of the second Handysize dry cargo vessel. This acquisition underlines ASCO’s intention to expand its operational capabilities beyond the Caspian Sea.

ONE launches new services Aegean Express and Levant Express.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) announces the launch of two new services to Northern European and Mediterranean destinations, the Aegean Express (AEX) and Levant Express (LEX), which will commence operations in January 2025. These new routes will provide North-South connectivity and fast delivery times, while providing easy access to the company’s feeder network via key hubs in Rotterdam, Istanbul, Piraeus and Damietta.

Maersk has named its new methanol-fueled container ship “Alexandra Maersk”.

Maersk has christened its new methanol-capable, dual-fuel container ship, the Alexandra Maersk, at a ceremony in the Port of Felixstowe, UK, attended by UK Maritime Minister Mike Cain, IMO officials, and Maersk customers and employees. Elaine Condon, Primark’s Director of People and Culture, served as the vessel’s godmother, highlighting Maersk’s strong partnership with the retailer.
